Invest in the SORA Methodology to fully embrace the growth of the Drone Economy
The Specific Operation Risk Assessment (SORA) Methodology is becoming the de facto standard for evaluating the potential risks of certain UAS operations.
In Europe, SORA has been endorsed by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) as an Acceptable Means of Compliance (AMC) to fulfil the requirements of the EU Regulations to operate UAS in Specific Category (Basic Regulation, Implementing Act 2019/947, Delegated Act 2019/945 and Annexes)
Around the world, SORA is also supported by a growing number of Civil Aviation Authorities including among others the United States, China, Australia, Canada, India and Brazil (full list of contributing countries can be found here).
Who will you learn from
After studying Mechanical Engineering at the Swiss Institute of Technology in Lausanne and Aerospace Engineering at Delft Technical University, Dannick joined the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) in 2016. There he developed the first standard scenarios for drone operations in Switzerland and contributed to the development of the SORA risk assessment methodology.
After gaining considerable insight and knowledge in operational authorisations and risk assessment for drones, he founded SORA Consulting. Today, SORA Consulting LLC is a trusted entity of the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) and has successfully managed multiple SORA Operational Authorisation requests for companies, NGO’s and government bodies.
Through SORA Consulting, Dannick is part of the Joint Authorities of Rulemaking of Unmanned Systems (JARUS) stakeholder body, where he contributes to the creation of training material.
In recent years, Dannick has conducted a number of SORA training seminars for both Authorities and Operators. During this time of COVID, Dannick is now sharing his expertise in two carefully designed digital SORA courses addressing the particular needs of Authorities and Operators.
Fast growing drone market
New job and business opportunities
According to a recent study from Drone Industry Insight the drone market is expected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 13.8% to reach a total market value of 42.8 billion USD in 2025.
The rapid development of the technology (aircrafts, sensors and software), the service demand increase coming from all sectors and industries and the implementation of risk and performance-based regulation around the world are generating new job opportunities for aeronautical professionals.
The future of Air Mobility is here and it's here to stay!
The arrival of more advanced capabilities such as BLVOS, autonomous flights, multi-drone operations, drone delivery and air cargo services will even further fuel the market growth and the demand for SORA experts.
Urgent need for Expertise!
With the entry into force of the EU Implementing Regulation 2019/947 on December, 31st 2020 (amended by EU Regulation 2020/746), both Drone Operators and Civil Aviation Authorities will need to improve their SORA Expertise:
- Drones Operators to request Operational Authorisation in Specific Category or apply for a Light UAS Operator Certificate (LUC).
- Civil Aviation Authorities to face the increasing number of SORA fillings and approvals.
